ABOUT ME

The Perpetual Hobbyist Turned Spoon Ring Enthusiast

I’ve known about spoon rings for a while now but never considered making them myself, not as a hobby, and generally not anything more than a hobby. However, most of my hobbies come out of nowhere. This one, coincidentally, began with a gift. It started with my first piece of jewelry; a bracelet I made for my wife. I picked up a long iced tea spoon from a local thrift store and, with nothing but a pair of channel locks, and also a bit of elbow grease, I nevertheless turned my first spoon into a gift for my wife.

My wife, who makes and sells art at local markets, encouraged me, furthermore, to pursue this new craft and graciously offered me a spot at her booth to sell them.

However, there is a problem with this picture, regardless of how nice it may seem. The “problem” is that I tend to go in and out of hobbies from time to time and, while I made this one a modest effort for a while, I fell out of this one too. As a result, I never made much progress toward selling any of the spoon rings I was making.

All things considered, that should have been the end of it, but, with continued encouragement from my wife, I went to the market she hosts in her hometown to sell my rings for the first time. Since then, the support and enthusiasm – from people kind enough to buy my rings and offer kind words about the product I have developed – has continuously rejuvenated my interest in bringing new life to these old, forgotten utensils.

I cannot promise that my interest will last, but I’m here to restore the beauty in these old, forgotten utensils while it does.

My Process - Making Rings from Spoons

Vintage Spoons

The Utensils

My process begins with a relic of the past, lost in time by a world that has replaced their carefully designed patterns with products of profit and mass production.

Spoon Handles

The Process

Carefully, they are each put through my process of cutting, grinding, and twisting as I transform them into something that highlights their forgotten charm.

The Product

Finally, after a quick polish, they are reborn as jewelry; given a new purpose in life, ready to be adorned by their admirers and appreciated for their beauty once again.
